Travis grew up not being able to stand the taste of coffee. He would always see his dad drinking a cup of coffee in the morning, but every time he tasted it, he thought it tasted like burned rubber. After college at Ball State University, Travis joined the Army and was eventually stationed in South Korea for a year. While in South Korea he took some leave and visited the island of Bali in Indonesia. He found a local who would drive tourists around the island and show them all of the highlights of the island. One of the stops was to a local coffee plantation and Travis told the driver that he could skip that stop because he didn’t like coffee, but the driver persisted so they stopped. After sampling around 5 cups of coffee Travis for sure thought that they were putting something in the coffee, because there was no way black coffee could taste that good. It tasted NOTHING like what he remembered when he used to taste his dad’s coffee growing up. I didn’t know at the time, but this was the first time I had tasted specialty, freshly roasted coffee. Over the next 4-5 years he kept trying coffee, but he never found any that he liked, it still always tasted like what he remembered growing up. Then finally he stumbled across an article online about how coffee starts losing its flavor quickly after being roasted and most coffee that you buy from a grocery store was roasted months prior and had already lost all of its desirable flavors. Mindy and Travis started talking about how they couldn’t find freshly roasted coffee anywhere and after a few months of planning and dreaming, they finally decided to open their own roastery, and Who’s Your Coffee Roastery LLC was born!
